Most folks have heard the idea of “dying to yourself, for the sake of God.” This theme is seen throughout the Bible, but John the Baptist was one man who understood it literally. After living his life to point others to Jesus, John was imprisoned for standing firm for God and God’s truth. Then, King Herod made a promise during a drunken orgy, to chop off John’s head. Killed in the midst of jealousy, deceit, and all sorts of other sin, John shows us what true faith, passion, and commitment to God and truth looks like.
