We all want joy; we all seek it our entire lives. But the search is not going well, because we seek joy in temporary things, in which we find our identity. We are slaves to the things that give us joy, but in the first verses of Philippians, Paul shows our true identity: we are slaves to Christ alone, the only master who frees us from all other bondage. And we are saints in Christ alone, through his work on the cross. In this freedom and identity is true joy; there is grace and there is peace.
