Info & FAQ's About KidCity

Here are answers to the most common questions regarding our KidCity ministry. If you have more questions, please contact our leadership here.
What are the “Five Basic Truths”?
As a church plant of The Village Church (Flower Mound, TX), we have the huge blessing of using their fantastic nursery and preschool curriculum. KidCity’s Sunday teaching incorporates one of the following foundational beliefs into every lesson, and each week we send home a parent sheet for follow-up discussion and activities with your family and Village. It is our hope that these truths take a firm hold of your child’s heart and are carried with them the rest of their lives:
- God made everything
- God is in charge of everything
- Jesus came to save sinners
- God is good
- God wants to talk with us
No elementary programming?
In addition to the reasons given on the previous page, the bottom line is that the Bible describes the church as a family, and we value the entire family “doing life together” at the earliest feasible age. Further, as with everything else, The City Church tries to follow the Bible’s teaching on everything. In looking at scripture regarding children, we find that…
- Children are found in gatherings of God’s people throughout the Bible (Deut 31:12-13; Josh 8:35; Neh 8:-3; Joel 2:15-16; Psa 34:3-8; 145:7-13; Matt 18:2; Acts 20:9; 21:5-6; Eph 6:1; Col 3:20; 1 John 2:13; etc.).
- Jesus promoted the value of children, even when they were distracting or unwanted, and was angered when children were excluded from important/theological discussions (Matt 18:2-10; 19:1-5; Mark 10:13-16; Luke 18:15-17; John 6:9-11).
- There are things about God’s kingdom that adults only learn if children “teach us” (Matt 11:25-26; 18:3-4; 21:16; Mark 10:15)
And finally, we believe that children – who learn by observing and doing – will best learn how to worship with the church body (which is a skill necessary for the rest of their lives), by watching and participating with their parents, other children, and other families in the All-Church Gathering, from Kindergarten on up.
Where can I get a Parent Sheet?
If you miss an All-Church Gathering, we're happy to get you a Parent Sheet for that week. Because we are using The Village Church’s curriculum, as well as parent sheets, we are honoring their request not to post the curriculum in a public, online venue. If you need a certain Sunday’s Parent Sheet, you can generally find it in the “KidCity” group on The City Church’s online network. If you’re not on the network, sign up here, or contact our KidCity leadership here, and we’ll email you that week’s Parent Sheet.
Who teaches Sunday KidCity?
We ask that everyone involved in The City Church be in a rotation for KidCity during All-Church Gatherings. it is our belief that everyone in our church family should come alongside parents and take a turn in impacting the littlest hearts in our church. But we provide security/regulation training for everyone in the rotation, and everyone who volunteers in KidCity will first pass a background check.
How are volunteers screened?
Before anyone volunteers with KidCity during All-Church Gatherings, they must fill out an application, sign a consent form for criminal and background checks, and complete a KidCity policy/procedure training.
Where can I get an appliation to work in KidCity?
Here - please read the packet and fill it out entirely. You may bring it to an All-Church Gathering, or mail it to: KidCity - P.O. Box 470919 - Fort Worth, TX 76147. Thanks.
How secure is Sunday KidCity?
Safety is of the highest priorities for us in caring for your children. We take the following steps to ensure the safety of KidCity.
- First, anyone volunteering in KidCity is carefully trained and screened to provide the safest environment possible. When parents drop your child off, you receive a numbered security tag.
- Second, your child gets a corresponding tag on the back of their shirt or diaper bag. You must present the correct security tag in order to pick your child up. We will follow this policy for every All-Church Gathering, even if you’re bringing your child into the Gathering for worship and communion, and even with the current size of The City Church family where you might know most folks, for safety and security of City Church kids.
- Third, we maintain strict teacher-student ratios to ensure quality care and safety of each child.
- Finally, a security representative remains in the lobby of the theater during each All-Church Gathering.
What is the Sunday sickness policy?
We require that a child be free of fever for at least 24 hours before entering KidCity. This is important to protect the health of all the children in our church family; please be considerate and apply the ‘Golden Rule,’ even if there’s the slightest possibility your child might be sick.
When/where do I check-in on Sundays?
KidCity check-in begins 20 minutes before the All-Church Gathering. The Four Day Weekend Theater, where The City Church hosts All-Church Gatherings, is a fairly simple facility: when you enter from Houston Street, you will come upstairs into the lobby. If you veer left you’ll enter the main theater, and if you veer right you’ll see the KidCity check-in table. If you’re confused, feel free to ask someone at the info desk, directly to your left as you enter the lobby.
Do you serve snacks?
We provide goldfish crackers, water, and fruit snacks for our preschool kids, and cheerios for our older nursery kids. On the rare occasion we serve any other food, we will post “Allergy Alert” signs at the check-in table, listing the foods we will serve that day. You are free to bring properly labeled sippy cups. Please let us know if your child has allergies, and help us keep KidCity allergy free by refraining from bringing in outside food!
