Why to Give & How to Give

A refresher of what Ben said Sunday night, May 16:

At this point our church family is about 60% supported by outside donors - organizations and churches, as well as individuals, who believe in what we're doing and consistently give to support our mission. That leaves about 40% up to the City Church family - to generously, sacrificially, and joyfully give to support the work of God in our church and our city. Two of our supporting churches have hit financial difficulties and have had to back out of their support, and summer is typically a 'more dry time' as far as giving goes.

So we're raising this need in our church family: we're asking & biblically exhorting every single person who considers The City Church your church family, to consistently, sacrificially, joyfully, generously invest not only your life, but your finances, in God's work. The following is from The City Church's website (/give):

Giving isn't a way for "the church" to get rich. It's how the mission of the church is carried out; it's how we support each other; it's the means by which we renew our city and our world. As followers of Christ, we labor not to accrue personal wealth or possessions, but to sacrificially and generously steward God's resources well and model Jesus to our brothers, sisters, and community.

Our work is an effort to serve our Father in all things, and one of the primary ways we serve God is by cheerfully giving God our "firstfruits" (2 Corinthians 9:7; Proverbs 3:9). We're asking folks involved in The City to contribute not by meeting some obligatory percentage, but gladly sacrificing for the sake of the gospel because Jesus sacrificed for us, and all we have is His.
